srXML - standard retail XML |

Reports from the srXML advisory board |

ebXML is an established XML protocol for general ebusiness transactions. SyncML is designed to facilitate general synchronisation of remote distributed systems. These are both general purpose and relatively complex in certain situations. One such application is that of remote ecommerce site management, which needs the facilities offered by both. To address this specifically a simplified XML schema is proposed using subsets of ebXML and SyncML where appropriate. The srXML advisory board was formed as an open collaborative body to design a set of standard XML DTD's to address these needs. A fuller description plus the current version of the srXML schema can be seen at http://srxml.org. srXML can be summarised as follows : "a lightweight ebusiness protocol for remote ecommerce site management suitable for a
range of clients from smartphones to PC's".

The goal of srXML is to facilitate management and unified data transfer between retail-based ecommerce systems. In practice, this means the various operations any compliant system performs can be replaced with any other compliant system. The system can then be viewed as a set of components where each one is not necessarily provided by one particular vendor. Compliant systems can pass system data between themselves (such as catalog items), or remote management and control of any system can be performed with any compliant client (e.g. a web browser, PC or smartphone).
